The deepest lake in Italy offers many possibilities for diving enthusiasts, and this is why, in addition to being an internationally renowned destination for sailors, Lake Como is also a point of reference for many diving enthusiasts.
This huge reservoir has always been considered among the best places Europeans to make delland diving, thanks to its clean waters, pleasant temperatures and the diversity of experiences that can be undertaken.
Spectacular dives can be organized in Lake Como for both beginners and more experienced divers; in fact, there are dives of all kinds: archaeological, deep, for beginners, for experts, in caves, along suggestive overhanging walls and so on.
Let's see together what are the peculiar characteristics of this lake; its surface is 146 kilometressquare, has an average depth of 154 meters, and a maximum depth of 415 meters (near Argegno). It is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the third largest in Italy. It is located at an average altitude of 199 m a.s.l.
You will be able to discover a multitude of fish, from pike to perch, eel, passing through carp, trout, chub and many others.

WHEN ?
You can dive in the waters of Lake Como throughout the year.
The best period (unlike the sea) is the winter one, but pleasant surprises are often hidden also during the summer one where the water
more temperate, however, it guarantees good visibility and total freedom of action.
Take into account the temperature and the scarcity of light (for your clothing and equipment): diving in the lake is often different from diving in the sea, but no less attractive. Lake Como is not as cold as one might fear. On the surface, the temperature of the water in summer is around 23 degrees, reaching around 11 degrees at a depth of 30 metres. During the winter season, however, the temperature is between 6 and 8 degrees.

There are many ideal diving spots, some of them can only be reached by boat such as Point Spargivento in Bellagio, the wall of Plinian Villa in Torno and Onno with its seahorses, but there are other destinations which by nature are more popular than others, essentially for three reasons: the beauty and particularity of the seabed, the presence of infrastructures and equipment, as well as the accessibility of the immersion. For example, we could mention the fantastic Piona Bay in Colico (the dome and the Comballo Luisin, the Malpensata),shore of Gittana with his Wreck (Autobotte), Mandello del Lario AndLierna with its overhanging walls,Malgrate and much more with fantastic historic wrecks to admire and get excited about. Other points offer, more specifically, equipment such as sagole (ropes that mark the course) or platforms for carrying out the exercises of the courses, such as for exampleRapaNuiin Loc.
